Frequently Asked Questions

Finding others who understand how it feels will often ease the anxiety and tension that cancer can cause. Also, some of those who belong to the group have been through different types of treatment and are now well. This can be encouraging.

As well as talking to others, the use of gentle and positive techniques for self help and the development of inner resources are explained at the group meetings; i.e. Relaxation, visual imagery and meditation.

There is a small library with books and other information, which members can borrow. Sometimes speakers are invited to meetings to talk about subjects of interest to members. The group does not offer medical advice but aims to work alongside orthodox medical care. Any personal religious belief is seen as having an essential part to play.

Professionally-trained volunteers support patients and carers in the Oncology & Haematology Department of Musgrove park Hospital on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00am and Tuesday afternoons from 1:30pm.

The
Headwear Clinic for chemotherapy patients, is held every Wednesday at Musgrove Park Hospital from 12:30-2:30pm. Headwear items are available for purchase at very reasonable prices.

There are three local area Support Groups :
 

Taunton CAFÉ meets every Tuesday from 10:00-12:00am at Robin Close Hall, Bishops Hull, Taunton.

Wells and Mendip CAFÉ meets every Friday 10:00-12:00am at the St Lawrence Day Centre, Chamberlain Street, Wells.

Minehead and West Somerset CAFÉ meets Mondays 2:00-4:00pm at The Methodist Church Hall, The Avenue, Minehead.
